Dog Training Tips

Build a bond with your dog.

Spend time with your dog and create a familial bond with it. Ensure that he/she acknowledges you as his/her keeper. Show him that you love and care for him so that he can also build trust, loyalty and love for you.

Keep your dog healthy

For a training to be effective, the dog must be fit physically. Common hindrances for a training to be successful are arthritis and parasites. Common canine parasites are ticks, fleas, and worms like heartworms. Good thing is that you can prevent heartworms with medications such as Heartgard Plus for dogs. Always keep in mind that even though parasites are small, they can cause severe damage to your dog’s body. If cases gets severe, it can be fatal to your dog.

Arthritis on the other hand will make dog training impossible. Arthritis disables your dog from doing much actions, so he cannot follow your commands even if he wants to. Treatments for this are Aspirin for dogs, Tramadol 50 mg, Azathioprine 50 mg, and many NSAIDs. Just consult a vet for proper prescription.

Praise and reward instead of punishments

Whenever your dog does something good or when your dog responds properly to your training, give him a treat. You can take your dog to the playground, sit beside him, show him appreciation, give him a pat, and/or give him some treats such as biscuits and dog foods. Make all the training exercises fun and your dog will eagerly respond to your efforts.

Start the training immediately.

For house training such as toilet use and the likes, you must begin it as soon as you get the dog. The earlier you start your training, the more receptive that your dog is going to become.
